SHOWJUMPING STAR TO MAKE DEBUT AT COUNTRYSIDE LIVE
Double Olympic British Show Jumper Geoff Billington will make his debut at Countryside Live when he wows crowds with a breath-taking display in the equine arena.
Geoff will take part in show jumping demonstrations in the indoor equine ring on both days of the Show, and is guaranteed to keep crowds entertained.
The British showjumper has represented Great Britain on more than 50 occasions including during the European and World Championships and at the Olympics.
Geoff said: “I’m very much looking forward to coming to Countryside Live for the first time. I will be bringing four horses from novice to international level explaining training techniques with each horse at different stages of their career as well as providing some entertainment about travelling the world with the show jumping elite including Yorkshire’s John and Michael Whitaker and Harvey Smith!”
Countryside Live is an annual event which will this year be held on Saturday October 20 and Sunday October 21 at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.
Show Director Charles Mills said “We’re delighted to have someone of Geoff’s calibre show jumping at this year’s Countryside Live. His talent and witty commentary is sure to go down a storm with our visitors.”
Geoff will be taking part in demonstrations on Saturday at 11am – 1pm and 3pm – 5pm and on Sunday at 1:30pm to 3:30pm in the indoor equine ring.
Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen will be star guest on the Saturday (October 20) while Peter Wright of Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet will be a special guest on the Sunday (October 21).
There will be two live Q&As with the stars at 11am and 3pm each day on the Main Stage in the Yorkshire Event Centre followed by book selling and signing next to the stage.
New for this year will be a pop up pub called the Tipsy Heifer overlooking the Main Ring which will feature live entertainment from Stray FM presenters Will Smith and Nick Hancock.
Open from 11am to 5pm on both days, Stray FM will provide entertainment at the pub including quizzes three times a day with over £500 worth of prizes to win including Fodder Afternoon Tea vouchers and Great Yorkshire Show family tickets.
Countryside Live is perfect for families, with a cookery theatre, live performances, animals, shopping and a Create + Explore area with hands-on activities for children and much more.
Now in its 16th year, Countryside Live usually attracts around 12,000 visitors across two days. As well as family activities, there are 2,000 animals who converge on the showground over the two days to compete.
From horses to honey, pigs to poultry, sheep to cattle, pigeons to rabbits there are competitions and classes throughout the weekend. Elsewhere there’s birds of prey displays, hundreds of stands to browse, horticultural classes and farriery competitions.
Tickets are on sale now and parking is free. Please note dogs are not allowed on the showground. Book in advance to save money! Members of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society are entitled to free entry, on production of their membership card.
