Gearing Up for the Great Yorkshire Show Tomorrow

 In 2019

Preparations were underway today for the 161st Great Yorkshire Show when a host of stars took to the Harrogate showground ahead of the opening day tomorrow.

Red Shepherdess Hannah Jackson who will be a special guest in the new Gen Z area to promote agricultural careers to teenagers, took to the sheep section where entries are record breaking this year.

Anita Rani and Jules Hudson took to the cattle rings as they prepare to broadcast two-part TV series Today at The Great Yorkshire Show which will go out on Channel 5 at 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday night this week.

They met Show Director Charles Mills to see the Longhorns, Beef Shorthorn and Charolais cattle which are all having their national breed competitions at the Great Yorkshire Show.

Sporting Soprano Lizzie Jones, of Halifax, and her four-year-old twins Bobby and Phoebe met one of the heavy horse competitors. Lizzie will sing two songs, twice a day in the Main Ring throughout the Show.

Managing Director Heather Parry met with sculptor Emma Stothard, of Whitby, as she put the finishing touches to a giant installation created to celebrate Fodder’s tenth anniversary. This will be on the President’s Lawn throughout the Show before being sited permanently outside Fodder.

Show Director Charles Mills said: “We are set for a fantastic show with three national cattle competitions and plenty of first-rate competition across the judging rings. This is a true celebration of food, farming and the countryside with the latest innovations in agricultural machinery as well as cookery theatres and everything from honey to fashion. We look forward to seeing the show on TV and we are proud to round off the three days with a visit from HRH The Duke of York who will visit on Thursday. It’s set to be a spectacular Show!”

There’s also a new-look fashion show with new presenter ITV Calendar’s Christine Talbot as well as the Slingsby Gin Garden and Kuoni Travel Corner at the entrance which now faces into the heart of the show.

The 161st Great Yorkshire Show will be held on Tuesday July 9th to Thursday July 11th 2019
