Lifetime Achievement Recognised

 In 2022, GYS Press Releases

The outstanding contribution made by a farmer to the farming and rural community in Yorkshire for many years was recognised today.

Derek Lamplough, who farms in East Yorkshire, was presented with the lifetime achievement award by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and the Royal Agriculture Benevolent Institution (RABI) award.

Derek has a real passion for farming in Yorkshire and the success of British agriculture and shares his enthusiasm with many local groups, including being a retired Director of Swaythorpe Growers Ltd, a producer organisation based in East Yorkshire growing vining peas and beans for freezing since 1996.

He has also held many positions with the NFU, representing the North East on Cereals and Oilseeds. He lobbied John Gummer, a previous Minister of Agriculture, on many occasions on various issues of the day.

Other groups Derek has been involved in are as Chairman of the Scarborough College Young Farmers and Chairman of Driffield Young Farmers. He has also been a Governor of Wold Newton School and a very keen member of Driffield Agricultural Society, being a past President.

He was on the East Yorkshire fundraising committee of RABI for more than 20 years raising awareness and funds as part of his volunteering.

The Great Yorkshire Show has become a four-day event after a raft of changes were implemented at the 2021 show due to Covid 19 regulations.

Tickets for the show have now sold out. Tickets will not be available on the gate. The opening times are 8am to 6pm on all four days. To see what is happening on which day, go to: https://greatyorkshireshow.co.uk/whats-on/
